![]() However, there isn’t much in it, and the Glo counters this by offering more flexible text display options. We prefered the reading experience on the Paperwhite, since text looks blacker and sharper. The Kobo’s white bezel picks up grime pretty quickly, too, and we soon found ours covered in ugly grey newsprint smears after using it to commute with for a few days. It’s slimmer than the Kobo, the bezel sits closer to the surface of the display, and the build is less plasticky. In terms of the way both devices look and feel, we prefer the Kindle. ![]() There’s 2GB storage for your books and documents, and no speakers or headphone output. While its touchscreen isn’t capacitive like the Paperwhite’s, its infrared-based system works as well enough. Apps for Android, iOS, Mac and PC, meanwhile, allow you to swap between devices at will, with bookmark synchronisation allowing you to pick up where you left off. There’s an integrated store accessed via Wi-Fi, which we’ve found in the past to be pretty well stocked, at least as far as bestsellers is concerned. It uses a 6in, 758 x 1,024 resolution E Ink Pearl panel, lending text a crisper, smoother look than on 600 x 800 panels of old. The Glo matches the Paperwhite in other aspects as well. The Glo’s light is much brighter at its top setting than the Kindle Paperwhite, although it can’t quite match the evenness of the Amazon device. In bright sunlight, E Ink is far more readable than an LCD-based tablet, with no glare or nasty reflections to deal with, yet that integrated light means you can continue to read when the lights go down, or even in the dark. I am hoping desperately to downgrade the kobo glo HD to or even 3.15.0 to get the "old" home screen back.It sounds a little Heath Robinson, but this system really does work well. If it helps, I am running macOS Sierra v10.12.5. ![]() So please use very simple, "for dummies" language. If anyone would be so kind as to help me with my problem, please understand that I haven't studied coding since I went to uni in the 1990s, and never with macs. I have tried it with the image file provided form one of the mobileread forum members (thank you very much davidfor) and Terminal returns the same "No such file or directory" text. ![]() Terminal asked me for my password, which I entered.ĭd: kidkobo.img: No such file or directory. Sudo dd bs=2048 if kidkobo.img of=/dev/disk1 The volume on device "" is not of type Apple_HFS or Apple_UFSĬould not validate source - Device not configured Using Disk Utility, I get the following messages when I try to Restore image: So I have obtained two SD images (one through this forum, one from my children's kobo, which I have saved as kidkobo.img on my mac desktop) but I am having trouble restoring either of these images to my SD card. I worked out I probably needed to reimage my SD card. As a result, after my kobo went into updating mode, it ended up with a mostly black screen with a few white wavy vertical lines. #1 Sharon Jackson 07-21-2017, 11:39 PMI updated to the 4.3.X firmware accidentally (did not realise using pocket via wifi would trigger a firmware update), and then I must have made a mistake while trying to downgrade my firmware to get the old home screen back.
